Streszczenie: Regiony stanowią kluczowy element struktury terytorialnej każdego kraju. Wewnętrzne zróżnicowanie regionów pozwala na wyodrębnienie w nich jednostek subregionalnych i lokalnych, w których podejmowane są działania gospodarcze i społeczne. Pomimo procesów internacjonalizacji i globalizacji rośnie znaczenie koncepcji rozwoju lokalnego. Istnieje kilka czynników wpływających na rosnącą rolę jednostek lokalnych w rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczym regionów. W wielu krajach społeczności lokalne mają dużą autonomię w tworzeniu strategii i polityk rozwoju lokalnego. Lokalne strategie i polityki endogeniczne stanowią ważne uzupełnienie zrównoważonego planowania regionalnego. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie teoretycznych podstaw gospodarki lokalnej i rozwoju lokalnego. Przy pomocy literatury przedmiotu przedstawiono koncepcje teoretyczne, definicje oraz wyniki rozwoju lokalnego. Przedstawiono i omówiono wybrane modele i paradygmaty rozwoju lokalnegom a także wzajemne powiązania między wymiarami zrównoważonego rozwoju lokalnego i powiązaniami z planowaniem regionalnym.
Streszczenie: Regions constitute a key element of the territorial structure of any country. Regional differences permit the distinction of subregional and local units, where economic and social activities are undertaken. Despite the internationalization and globalization processes, the importance of local development is growing. Several factors influence the growing role of local units in the socio-economic development of regions. In many countries, local communities have great autonomy in creating local development strategies and policies. Local strategies and policies create an important complementary activity to sustainable regional planning. The aim of the work is to present a theoretical background of the local economy and local development. Using the subject literature, the teoretical concepts and definitions, as well as the results of local development, were presented. Selected models and paradigms of local development, as well as interrelations between dimensions of local sustainability and links with regional planning, were also presented and discussed.

Streszczenie: The aim of the study is to indicate the main factors and barriers to the development of the enterprises which represent the bioeconomy sector and operate in valuable natural areas. Taking into consideration that the bioeconomy is a key and a potential sector, which should be developed in the environmentally valuable areas, the study identifies the most important factors for the development of the studied sector and desirable forms of supporting that activity. The paper presents the results of the research on a sample of 48 enterprises representing the bioeconomy sector located in 30 municipalities with the highest environmental valuables in Lublin voivodeship (Poland). The study shows that entrepreneurs who represent the bioeconomy sector perceived local ecological conditions as a key and a positive factor of company's development. The results are presented in a form of selected elements of descriptive statistics. The paper was prepared within the research project No 2011/01/D/HS4/03927 entitled "Environmental Conditions and Factors of Development of the Economic Functions of Valuable Natural Areas of Lublin Voivodeship" funded by the National Science Centre.
